English attacking midfielder Harry Forrester and Irish striker Anthony Stokes signed for Persian Gulf Pro League club Tractor Sazi, managed by John Toshack, on Thursday.

Forrester, 27, joined the Iranian club a day after terminating his contract with Rangers Football Club of Scotland.

He scored eight goals in 44 appearances for Rangers after joining the team in January 2016 but spent the last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon in the English League One.

He started football with the youth teams of Watford and Aston Villa and played for England U16 and U17 teams as well.

Forrester will now try his luck with the Tabriz-based Tractor Sazi, which finished 10th in the 16-team Persian Gulf Pro League last season but has finished runner-up in three of the last seven years, Sky Sports reported.

“Hello Tractor fans, Harry Forrester [here]. I am looking forward to a successful season and I will see you all soon,” he told supporters on the club’s official Instagram account.

Forrester is the first Englishman to sign for an Iranian club since 2015, when Korede Aiyegbusi joined Meshki Pooshan.

Forrester has signed a two-year contract with the Iranian club where he will stay until at least June 2020.

Acording to Scotsman.com, Anthony Stokes, 29, the former Celtic, Blackburn, Arsenal and Sunderland striker, who has been without a club ever since he left Greek outfit Apollon Smyrni back in April, has also put pen to paper on a 2-year deal with Tractor Sazi.

Stokes has made nine appearances for the Republic of Ireland and his last international cap came three years ago in a friendly against the US. On June 9, Tractor Sazi FC signed a three-year contract with veteran Welsh football coach John Toshack, 69, as the new manager of the team. Former Liverpool legend, Toshack has managed the Wales national team, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Sporting CP and Swansea and won many titles.
