In the latest ranking of the International Fencing Federation (FIE), Iran’s senior sabre fencing team advanced to fourth place for the first time in the nation’s fencing history.

The ranking was updated after Coupe du Monde par equips, Fencing World Cup in Madrid, Spain, earlier this month. Iran now has taken the fourth spot with 262 points, according to the results and data from FIE official website.

In the Spanish tournament, Iran finished eighth but collected enough points to move up in the table.

South Korea, Italy and Hungary are in the first to third places respectively.

South Korea with 448 points has cemented its place in the top spot. Italy with 340 points is second while Hungary comes third with 304 points.

Points for Iran are collected from seven events in the current season.

The best places achieved by Iran are at Championnats Asiatiques in Hong Kong, June 2017, and Coupe du Monde par equips in Warsaw, Poland, in February. Iran sabre team finished second in both events.

There are names of giant teams in the sport behind Iran. Russia with 260 points and the US with 254 points are shadowing Iran in fifth and sixth places. Germany, France, Romania and Ukraine have lower on the list with seventh to tenth places.
