Iran freestyle cadets wrapped up the Cadet Asian Championships (May 10-13) in Tashkent with six gold medals.
For the second day in a row, Iran bagged three Cadet Asian freestyle gold medals in the Uzbek capital, bringing their tournament total to six gold. The host nation grabbed a pair of gold on the final day, according to the Iran Wrestling Federation website.
The final results put Iran on the top of the games with 196 points and Kazakhstan second with 171 points. The host country settled for third place with 146 points. India and Japan finished fourth and fifth respectively each with 134 and 111 points.
Rahman Amouzad-Khalili kicked off Iran’s championship march with a 10-0 technical victory over Sultan Kurmanaliyev of Kazakhstan in the final of 45kg weight class to grab gold.
Second gold medal on the final day went to Ali Abdolahi; he won on technical points over Kazakh Yunus Gafurov in the 92kg finals.
Abdolahi picked up a takedown and five gut wrenches after giving up the match’s first takedown, outscoring Gafurov 10-0 to take the match 12-2.
The last golden boy was heavy-weight Amir Zare in the 110kg category. Zare completed Iran’s three-peat with a 10-0 routing of Kumar Anirudh from India in the first period of the 110kg finals.
Bronze Winners
The Iranians also won two bronze medals in 51kg and 55kg class. Seyyed-Erfan Jafarian who could not enter the final clash in the 51kg division, defeated a Saudi rival in the repechage game to win bronze.
Second bronze went to Sajjad Goudarzi in the 55kg class. Goudarzi overpowered South Korean rival in the classification games 11-0.
On May 11 the Iran team cemented the top spot of the Greco-Roman category with four gold, one silver and 2 bronze medals.
Coming out as champions in both divisions, Iran secured Youth Olympic quotas for the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games slated for October 6-18 in Argentina.
