Iran Judo Federation President Mohammed Derakhshan has hailed the success of IJF education program held recently across the country.

A judo education program held late April provided “an unforgettable and precious memory” for the sport in the country, Derakhshan said.

Iran was the destination of the eighth edition of the Judo Educational Journey initiative, established by the International Judo Federation in 2014, Insidethegames website wrote on Tuesday.

The program, conducted over 12 days, included 12 judo sessions supervised by the worldwide governing body.

Gévrise Émane of France, a three-time world champion, and Hungarian legend Milos Ungvari were among the famous judokas who participated in the program.

It included a 5,000km journey across the country, where participants and organizers visited 10 cities. A total of 2,416 judokas took part.

Karaj in Alborz Province and Islam Shahr, south of Tehran, where the journey commenced, hosted sessions for women’s practice supervised by Émane. The educational tour then proceeded to Isfahan and Shiraz before it visited Mashhad and the smaller towns of Tous, in Khorasan Razavi Province, Bojnourd and Esfarayen in North Khorasan Province and Nur on the Caspian Sea. “The program has been a source of great motivation for all participants and we already have requests from other regions in Iran to organize such tours,” said Derakhshan.
