Iran, Russia Beat Rivals

It was a close encounter as only one goal helped the host Golsapoosh prevails over the mighty opponent

On the first day of the second Eurasia Beach Soccer Cup in Yazd, Iran, on Sunday, Iranian and Russian teams defeated their rivals from Spain and Italy.

The winner of previous edition of the games, Moqavemat Golsapoosh of Yazd City, got its nose in front in the clash against Spanish club Levante. The Spaniards lost 2-1 to the Iranian side. Javad Dehqanizadeh and Hamid-Reza Dehqani scored goals for Iran, Beachsoccer.com reported.

It was a close encounter as only one goal helped the host prevails over the mighty opponent. The Granota made things difficult for the Iranians from the very first minute, and it was not until the last seconds of the first period that Dehqanizadeh pushed the host ahead.

José Enrique balanced things back in the second period, shouting that Levante was ready to upset the defending champion. But Dehghani would not let that happen, and his goal in the first stage of the last leg made the difference, securing the points for Moqavemat Golsapoosh.

In the other match on the first day, Lokomotiv of Moscow defeated Catania of Italy. The Russians managed to get a two-goal difference against Catania during the first period. Despite the Catanesi cut the distance in half before the first break, a new 3-0 run by Lokomotiv left the score 5-1. The Italian side scored another goal and made it 5-2.

Hostilities went on in the third period, with Catania tirelessly trying to contest the Russian advantage. Their reaction and a 3-4 run in that last leg were not enough, though, and Lokomotiv earned the first points at stake.

The games will end on Tuesday in Yazd in central Iran.
