Michael Norman, American track and field athlete, broke the world indoor 400 meters record when he clocked 44.52 seconds at the US collegiate championships in College Station, Texas, on Saturday.

Norman beat the 2008 record of Florida’s Kerron Clement by 0.05 seconds. Rai Benjamin, who also was part of the Trojans’ relay team, took the third place in the 200 meters earlier in the day.

USC’s men finished second overall in the championships, behind Florida, Los Angeles Times reported.

Kendall Ellis had a similar feat for the USC women. She set a US record in the 400 meters and then helped the women’s team take first place in the 1,600-meter relay. Anna Cockrell, who also was part of the Trojans’ relay team, finished second in the 60-meter hurdles.

Norman, 20, was fifth in the 200m at the 2016 US Olympic Trials and went on to win the world junior championships 200m later that year.
