Iran wrestling team has been placed in Pool A at the Freestyle Wrestling World Cup slated for April 7-8 in the American state of Iowa.
In the eight nation cup Iran is grouped with the host country the US, Japan and Georgia, according to the United World Wrestling website.
Pool B consists of Russia, Azerbaijan, Cuba and Kazakhstan. All participating nations are considered giants in wrestling.
Iran earned the title in the last Freestyle World Cup (February 2017, Kermanshah, Iran) and will compete this year to defend its title. Also in the Takhti Freestyle Cup earlier this month, Iran was crowned champion.
Iranian wrestlers will meet the US in a rematch of last year’s World Cup final in their second pool match when Iran defeated the US 5-3 to win the competition.
