National beach soccer team defeated Spain 4-2 in the final match of the second Persian Beach Soccer Cup in Bushehr, Khuzestan Province, on Monday, to win the title of the friendly games, Varzesh3 reported.

Spain played the opening match of the four-nation tournament against Ukraine and won 6-2 on January 27. In the second match, Iran beat Azerbaijan 3-1.

On the second day of the tournament the Spaniards overpowered their Azeri rivals 3-1 while Iran humbled Ukraine 6-3.

Ukraine and Azerbaijan met on Monday when the former downed the latter 4-3 to take third place.

Prior to Monday’s clash, Iran had lined up against Spain thrice bagging two wins and one loss.

Iran is currently third in the world beach soccer rankings after Brazil and Portugal. It was the Asian champion at the AFC Championship in Malaysia last year. Iran had finished first in the 2013 World Cup in the neighboring Arab state of Qatar.

In the 2017 AFC Championship, Iran was awarded thrice for the Most Valuable Player Mohammad-Ali Mokhtari who was also awarded as Top Scorer of the games with 12 goals. The team was also honored with the Fair Play Award.

Marco Octavio’s men were last in competitive action at the Huawei Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup in Dubai last November, where they finished third after defeating Russia 4-2 in the playoff.
