Persian Beach Soccer Cup to Open Jan. 27 in Bushehr

Iran’s beach soccer team will line up against Republic of Azerbaijan in the first match of the second Persian Beach Soccer Cup in the port city of Bushehr, south Iran, January 27-29.

Azerbaijan, Spain, Ukraine and Iran will participate in the second edition of the games.

Iran and Azerbaijan meet on January 27 and on the same day Spain will face Ukraine, IRNA reported.

On January 28, Iran and Ukraine will hold their second match and Spain will play Azerbaijan.

Spain and Iran will clash on the last day while Azerbaijan will line up against Ukraine.

The first edition of the tournament was held last year with Italy, Ukraine, Poland and the host country Iran.

Iran currently holds second place in the Beach Soccer Worldwide ranking after Brazil. Portugal and Russia are in third and fourth place respectively.

The best result for the national squad in international competitions was during the 2017 Bahamas World Cup in which Iran finished 3rd. Iran goalkeeper Peyman Hosseini was named best goalkeeper in the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. He was also named the best goalkeeper in the world for the year 2017.

Among the attending countries Spain and Ukraine hold 14th and 15th place in the world ranking respectively while Azerbaijan has no place among the top 30 teams.

Brazilian coach Marco Octavio is leading Iran’s national beach soccer team since 2017. He guided Brazil to four Beach Soccer Worldwide Mundialito titles, which remains a record. Simply known as Mundialito, it is an annual international beach soccer tournament that takes place between few select countries, which are invited to play at the tournament organized by Beach Soccer Worldwide.
