Karate1 Premier League Program in Paris Announced

The World Karate Federation released the Karate1 Premier League slated for January 26-28 in Paris.

On the first day of the competitions, elimination rounds and repechages of the male team kata and female individual kata will be held. Also male kumite category combats in -60kg, -75kg, and -67kg categories as well as female -50kg and -55kg will follow on the same day.

The program on the second day will focus on male individual and female team kata divisions. Elimination and repechages will continue on the second day in males’ kumite for males’ -84kg and +84kg as well as -61kg, -68kg and +68kg for females’ category.

Repechage is a practice in series competitions that allows participants who failed to meet qualifying standards by a small margin to continue to the next round, in a similar way as wild card system works out.

On the third (last) day of the games, competitions for third place bouts in all foretold categories will be held in the morning and after a break the finals will take place in the afternoon and culminate in the award ceremony.

The Paris tournament is the first of the seven-round international games. Rotterdam, Netherlands; Dubai, the UAE; Rabat, Morocco; Istanbul, Turkey; Berlin, Germany; and Tokyo, Japan, will host the next rounds up to the end of 2018.

According to the World Karate Federation website, 753 karatekas from 80 countries will the French event and points achieved will be considered for the Olympics quota.

Initiated in 2011, the Karate1 Premier League is the most important league event in the world of karate. It includes some of the most prominent competitions and endeavors to bring together the best karate athletes in the world.
