Young chess grandmaster Parham Maghsoodloo finished first at the 3rd Wealth Mumbai International Open in Mumbai, India, on Sunday.

The 17-year-old collected eight points after nine rounds to be crowned at the event. Italian David Alberto finished second.

Maghsoodloo was awarded the title of grandmaster by World Chess Federation (FIDE) in 2016, the same year he won the title of international master, the federation website wrote.

The Indian event was held under the FIDE Laws of Chess for a total of 9-rounds on a Swiss-system basis. Each player had 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.

Maghsoodloo played in the Chess World Cup 2015, and represented the country at the 42nd Chess Olympiad in 2016. He won the Iranian Chess Championship in 2017.
