In a close and breathtaking encounter at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in the quarterfinals of Hazfi Cup, Sanat Naft Abadan beat Persepolis to reach the semifinals.

The two teams ended the 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Farshad Ahmadzadeh scoring for Persepolis in the 26th minute and Ali Abdollahzadeh leveling the scoreline on minute 48.

Playing another 30 minutes in extra time produced no goals for either side and it was the penalties that decided the winner. Sanat Naft beat its powerful rival 5-4 to book a seat in the Hazfi Cup semis.

In other games of the quarterfinals, Esteghlal Khuzestan downed Traktorsazi Tabriz and Khone be Khone Babol won over Gostaresh Foulad Tabriz to emerge as the other semifinalists.

The match between Esteghlal and Iranjavan Bushehr, scheduled for Monday in Azadi, was cancelled because of the heavy fog and air pollution.
