Qatar Football Association (QFA) has added another cooperation agreement to its growing list of federation alliances, signing a memorandum of understanding with the Iran Football Federation.

Iran is an AFC powerhouse in terms of performance. Qatar, as hosts of the 2022 World Cup, has a driving ambition to develop its own national game and team.

According to Insideworldfootball.com, at a signing ceremony at the Al Bidda Tower in Doha attended by President of Iran Football Federation Mehdi Taj and QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani, the emphasis was on mutual cooperation to further develop the sport in both countries.

“We look forward to cooperate with QFA in various areas which will strengthen the Qatari-Iranian relations,” said Taj.

Both federations stressed the importance of the relationship between the two of them and how football plays a key role in promoting bilateral relations between all federations.

Under the new collaboration a joint working group will be formed which will study the legal frameworks in detail in order to activate the agreement.

With the wider political and commercial blockade by its neighbors Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates still in force, the QFA has nevertheless found solidarity in the wider football world as it seeks to widen its Asian and global relationships.

Qatar has recently signed a series of agreements with the football federations in Oman, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Japan, Iraq, the Maldives, Sri Lanka and the Czech Republic.
