Iran Taekwondo team was crowned at the World Taekwondo Team Championships in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, December 5-6.

After winning the national karate league competitions, Azad University team was chosen to represent Iran at the games. Eight teams from eight countries, namely Russia, China, Niger, Morocco, South Korea, Taiwan, Iran and the host country attended the male section of the games.

Beating China and Niger in the group stage matches, Iran qualified for the semifinals. Facing South Korea, Iranian taekwondokas beat their East Asian rivals 55-38 to become finalists and meet Russia. In a close game, Iran defeated Russia 36-34 and won the title, IRNA reported.

Soroush Ahmadi, Hadi Tiran-Valipour, Seyyed Hasan Ehsani, Mehdi Khodabakhshi, Saeed Rajabi and Erfan Nazemi were the members of Azad University team.
