Easypipe team from Iran beat Titan Mercury of the US to clinch the first place at the 4th United World Wrestling (UWW) Freestyle Clubs Cup, Tehran, December 7-8.

Easypipe beat Titan in a close and breathtaking encounter 6-4 to win the cup. The winner of the games was not defined until the last match in 125kg category. Geno Petriashvili (from Georgia) of Easypipe defeated American wrestler Nick Gwiazdowski 6-5 to name the Iranian team as the winner of the tournament.

Ten foreign teams in addition to three local teams attended the competition at Azadi Sports Complex, IRNA reported.

Titan Mercury beat the Mongolian team Khimori 9-1 to enter the finals. On the other side, Easypipe defeated another Iranian team, the Sari Stars 6-4 to pave the way into the finals.

Sari Stars finished third by defeating Khimori 9-1.

In a strange development, Bimeh Razi team, the title holder for two series of the games, could not make it to the final. The team had hired several famed international wrestlers such as Russian Abdulrashid Sadulaev, 2016 Rio Olympics gold winner and Aniuar Geduev, 2016 Rio Olympics silver winner, also from Russia.

Despite having all the Olympian stars, the team was defeated by Easypipe 6-4 in the group-stage matches.

World Wrestling Clubs Cup is an international wrestling clubs competition among teams representing member nations of the sport’s global governing body, the United World Wrestling.
