Para Taekwondokas Win Three Medals

Iran para taekwondokas won three medals at the 7th International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) World Games in Vila Real de Santo António in Portugal, November 30-December 6.

According to Varzesh3.com, Mehdi Pourrahnama, Asghar Azizi won two gold while Mahmoud Jafarzadeh took a bronze medal.

Pourrahnama in -75kg category beat his American rival 19-6 after a rest in the first round. Later he defeated Spanish athlete 15-2 to enter the final in which he overcame a Turk 19-5 to grab the golden medal.

The other gold winner, Azizi overpowered his American rival 15-2 in the first round. He defeated Croatian Ivan Mikulic, world champion and world No. 1 in Para Taekwondo ranking, 17-5 to face Bayram Kayan from Turkey in the final where he won 18-6 to stand on the first place.

In the -75kg class, Jafarzadeh rested in the first round and defeated an Azeri 9-4 in the second stage. However, he lost the next match to Fatih Celik from Turkey to sit on the third place.

The sports program of IWAS games includes archery, athletics, para taekwondo, swimming and table tennis.
