AC Milan Coach Vincenzo Montella got sacked on Monday, November 27, due to weak results in Serie A league games.
The club immediately announced that he would be replaced by former midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, Marca reported.
Gattuso, 39, initially played for smaller Italian clubs Perugia and Salernitana, as well as Scottish club Rangers. He is mostly remembered for his time with Milan, where he won the Champions League in 2002–03 and 2006–07, the Coppa Italia in 2002–03, and also the Serie A title in 2003–04 and 2010–11.
At international level, he represented Italy’s national football team at the 2000 Summer Olympics, three FIFA World Cups, two UEFA European Championships, and the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Montella was dismissed one day after a 0-0 home draw with Torino left big-spending Milan seventh in Serie A with 20 points from 14 games. Gattuso was previously manager of the club’s youth team.
