Mohammad-Jafar Moradi from Iran took gold at the half marathon in Beirut.

The Iranian runner finished in first place with a time of 1:08:04. Jordan’s Ahmad Sammour won the silver medal with 1:08:49 and the bronze medal went to Uganda’s Ismail Ssenyange with a time of 1:11:49, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Moradi is preparing for the 2017 Asian Marathon Championships to be held in Dongguan, China, November 26.

A half marathon is a road running event of 21.0975 km - half the distance of a marathon. Participation in half marathons has grown steadily since 2003, partly due to the fact that it is a challenging distance, but does not require the same level of training that a marathon does.

Beirut Marathon is an annual event that is regarded highly by the Lebanese irrespective of their political and social affiliations.
