Iran came fourth in Division B of the FIBA U-16 Women’s Asia Championship after losing to Kazakhstan 61-47 in the third-placed match on Saturday.

The Iran team started the competition with an 89-32 win over Nepal but lost to host India 97-53 in its second match, Tasnim News Agency reported.

The young basketball players overpowered Sri Lanka 84-76 and also beat the Maldives 129-30 to book a berth in the semifinal where they were defeated by  Malaysia 85-68.

In Division B the champion will earn the right to be promoted to the next championship, replacing the last-placed (eighth placer) team from Division A.

The 2017 FIBA Asia U-16 Championship for Women is the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2018 FIBA U-17 World Championship for Women.
