Shahrbanou Mansourian and Maryam Hashemi, the Sanda competitors of Iran’s National Wushu Team, won in the quarter-final and semi-final at the 14th World Wushu Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Iran’s women Wushu team has performed very well at the event, with Mansourian thrashing Shannon Morton from the US in the first round with one-sided points and racking up a huge point difference to secure a place in the semifinal,  Mehr News Agency reported.

Mansourian had already knocked out a rival in her debut fight and was to clash with  a player from India late on Monday.

In the weight class minus 70 kg, Hashemi defeated the Dutch representative to emerge as the first Iranian to find her way to the finals.

Hashemi will line up against Wushu exponent of the Philippines on Tuesday.  The Filipina  has a world record of bagging medals in world events.

The tournament ends on October 3.
