On day one of the free-style wresting contest at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), underway in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat, Iranian wrestlers won 4 medals.

Mojtaba Goleij won the gold medal in the -97 kilogram weight category and Hossein Elyasi took a gold in the 74 kg class, Mehr News Agency reported.

Nader Hajaghnia and Farzad Amouzad Khalil were the two other Iranian athletes who brought home bronze medals in the 57 and 65 kilogram weight classes, respectively.

Earlier, Esmaeil Amiri (68kg), Ghasem Dazi (75kg), and Habibollah Torabi (82kg) won bronze medals in the traditional wrestling category.

  4 Bronzes for Boxers

Iran’s boxers also won four bronze medals. Hamid Amini in the -67 kg category was defeated by a Turkmen and had to be satisfied with a bronze medal, IRNA reported.

Zeinab Jabbari in the -60 kg category for women was overpowered by a Tajik rival and received bronze medal.

The third and the fourth bronze medals were snatched by Mirdavoud Mousavi and Ali Bani Assad in the -74kg and -71kg categories, respectively.

The 2017 AIMAG opened in Ashgabat on Sept. 16 and will end on September 27.
