Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Sunday Iran had no wish to attend the international conference in Paris on fighting the Islamic State group, saying the meeting was just for "show".

Tehran favors a "real" and "unselective" campaign against the issue of terrorism in the region and world, he told IRNA.

Iran was the first country which came to Iraq's aid in its campaign against terrorism, he said.

The Islamic Republic will continue backing Iraq and Syria to help them deal with terrorists, he added.

Iran has not been invited to Monday’s meeting in Paris, amid US resistance to involving Tehran in the coalition it is been building to fight IS militants in Iraq and Syria.

The Associated Press had reported on Friday that France was prepared to invite Iran to the conference which is aimed at coordinating actions to knock out Islamic State extremists.

Reuters quoted Kerry as saying on Friday it was "not appropriate" for Iran to join talks on confronting IS militants.

"Under the circumstances, at this moment in time, it would not be right for any number of reasons. It would not be appropriate given the many other issues that are on the table in Syria and elsewhere," he said.
