This year’s International Historical and Military Film Festival in Warsaw saw the Silver Sword Award going to an Iranian movie again for the third consecutive year.
‘Maritime Silk Road’ directed by Mohammadreza Bozorgnia, bagged the festival jury award to claim the Silver Sword, reported IRNA.
In the festival’s special awarding ceremony, Behzad Mohammadi, Cultural Attaché at the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Embassy in Poland, received the award on behalf of people involved in the film.
Maritime Silk Road is a 2011 Iranian film about a man called Soleiman Siraf who, according to historical documents, was the first sailor to cross the Indian Ocean to China. His route was then called the Maritime Silk Road and many merchants took that route to get their merchandise to China. One of the passengers in the film is a young man named Shazan Ibn-Yusof who keeps a log of the voyage. The Maritime Silk Road started in The Persian Gulf and continued into India, Thailand and China.
Also the movie ‘Extradition’ directed by Ali Ghaffari represented Iranian cinema in the festival’s competition section. Five other Iranian films were also screened for the audience.
This year’s festival in Warsaw saw a total of 48 films in competition section and 15 films in other sections. It was held between September 9 and 13.
