Emergency Preparedness Training

Iran’s Red Crescent Society will provide face-to-face emergency preparedness training to 8,900 households in Charmahal-Bakhtiari Province before the end of the current calendar year in March 2018, deputy for research and education at the society, Shirin Kuhi-Habibi, said.

As part of the program, IRCS volunteers will visit each household 12 times throughout the year to educate them on emergency responses; she was quoted by ISNA as saying.

The program is part of IRCS’s Khadem Scheme— taking its name from the Persian acronym for ‘Families Prepared for Emergencies—which aims at educating people on the best responses in case of emergencies such as floods, earthquake, avalanche and other natural or man-made disasters.

The scheme was piloted in some provinces in the last Iranian year (March 2016-17) and covered 250,000 households. IRCS plans to provide emergency training to one million households before March and expand the program to 25 million households within a five-year period to March 2022.
