One person dies every 33 minutes due to traffic accidents and the number of injured is 20 times more, said the deputy health minister, Dr. Iraj Harirchi, Alef News reported. In the year 2005, 27,800 people lost their lives in road mishaps. Though the figure has now dropped to 15,932, traffic accident is still the second leading cause of death in the country. “Annually 1,480 trillion rials ($39 billion) from the national income is spent for traffic incidents directly or indirectly,” Harirchi added.
