BRT Platform Screens Forgotten

Only two out of the 34 stops on Tehran’s Bus Rapid Transit Line 7 are equipped with platform screens, though two years ago the managing director of the Tehran Bus Company had promised to put up screens in all stops.

Platform screens are glass walls that protect platforms from tracks with doors that open in sync with the bus doors. Peyman Sanandaji had said in 2015 that all stops on Line 7, which at 17.5 kilometers is the longest BRT line in the sprawling metropolis, would be equipped with platform screens to ensure the safety of passengers. However, screens have been installed on only two platforms, YJC reported. Moreover, the screens do not work as they should and are not in sync with bus doors, for this reason they are always left open, which defeats the purpose of having them.

Connecting Tajrish Square in the north to Rah Ahan (railway station) Square in the south, Line 7 is the longest and busiest BRT route in Tehran with a bus available every few minutes.
