Once the third and final phase of the Tehran Metro Line 8 is operational, the line will become the fastest subway route in the city, according to the head of Tehran Metro Company.
Speaking on Monday at the inauguration of the second phase of the line, Habil Darvishi said when the route is complete it will become Tehran’s first express subway, Mehr News Agency reported.
The third phase, which will connect Tehran to Parand just outside of the capital, is due to open before the year is out next March.
“Trains will travel at 120 km per hour on the line,” he said. In other words, trains will travel the 50-km distance between Tehran and Parand in 34 minutes.
The first phase of Line 8 was opened last year and connects Shahed Station in southern Tehran to Shahr-e-Aftab Exhibition Center. The second phase, which was inaugurated on Monday, connected the new exhibition center to Imam Khomeini International Airport. The final phase will link the airport to Parand.
