During the first four months of the current calendar year that started in March, the Iranian Red Crescent Society rescued 728 people in the mountainous regions, according to Shahin Fathi, deputy head of operations at IRCS’s Relief and Rescue Organization.

The number of rescue operations shows a 7% growth compared to corresponding period last year.

Looking for missing mountaineers made up 46% of all operations, while 37% involved helping climbers suffering from injuries sustained as a result of falls. Also 3% of operations were performed to help climbers suffering from altitude sickness and 14% were related to other accidents like animal bites accidents.  

Mazandaran Province with 76 rescue operations topped the list accounting for 10% of the total operations. The other three provinces with the highest number of registered rescue operations were Fars with 8.5% of the total operations, Tehran (8.2%), and Charmahal-Bakhtiari (6.5%). As per data from the Relief and Rescue Organization, 264 people out of the total 751 rescued during the four months were transferred to hospitals for inpatient treatment.
