With seven new fire stations launched in Tehran late last week, the total number of such stations in the capital has reached 129.

The new stations are expected to help reduce the average response time of firefighters’ and improve the quality of services.

According to Hamidreza Yadegari, public relations chief at Tehran’s Fire Department, the equipment for each station has been prepared based on the geographical needs of the district, Farda News reported.

“Construction of more fire stations is also on the agenda,” he said.

Lack of modern equipment in Tehran’s Fire Department has drawn widespread criticism, especially since the fiery collapse of Plasco, a commercial high-rise in central Tehran, in January that killed 16 firefighters.
