Following the success of a scheme for underprivileged children conducted by the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee during the holy month of Ramadan (May 27 – June 25) in Tehran, the organization has decided to hold similar schemes more frequently throughout the year.

The scheme, titled “Envelope of Wishes”, had children covered by the committee write their wishes in a letter. The letters were then placed in envelopes and presented to people at the Committee’s fundraising event in Ramadan.

“This year, over 1,600 wishes that included bikes, tablets, televisions, toys, beds, and even  washing machines were fulfilled by donations worth approximately 5.7 billion rials ($151,000),” Mohsen Valiei, director general of Tehran province’s IKRC office, ISNA reported.

The scheme had proved to be a success last year as well and more than 1,300 philanthropists fulfilled the wishes of orphaned children and those in low-income families.

Given the public reception of the plan, the committee is looking to implement it during other occasions every year.

Those interested in helping out can visit IKRC offices across Tehran Province or call +98-21-71392242 and +98-21-77290035 or the automated phone system 7355.

An employee at the IKRC told Financial Tribune on phone that a number of wishes have remained unfulfilled and that all contributions are welcome. She also pointed out that a website will be launched soon to facilitate the donation process.
