State Welfare Organization is planning to add 15 shelters for victims of domestic abuse across the country, increasing the number of the facilities to 22. Currently, there are only seven shelters for vulnerable women in Iran, four of which are in Tehran, according to Fariba Derakhshannia, head of the office for overseeing the affairs of socially-distressed people at SWO. “Fifteen more shelters are planned to be established across the country in the near future,” IRNA quoted her as saying. Shelters have been established with an aim to house and support victims of domestic violence. Each shelter can house up to 30 women.
