No cases of cholera have been reported since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21), continuing last year’s trend. “Not a single case was reported last year, and we haven’t received any reports of cholera cases so far this year,” Mohammad Mehdi Gouya, head of the Center for Epidemics at the Health Ministry, said. In 2015, six cases were reported among foreign nationals living in Iran. Only one Iranian was confirmed to have been infected.  Cholera is transmitted from contaminated food and water due to poor sanitation. Unclean drinking water is a major cause of the disease.
