The Youth Organization of Iran’s Red Crescent Society, in cooperation with Iran’s Drug Control Headquarters, has trained 50,000 schoolchildren and university students to raise awareness about drug addiction among their peers.

These young people, referred to as addiction control educators, will use books and CDs as well as the social media to dissuade young people from turning to narcotics.

“The most important purpose of the scheme is to carry out programs that help motivate people and instill hope in younger folks,” said Amir Mohsen Ziaei, head of IRCS, IRNA reported.

The organization has around one million volunteers who spend their free time doing social and charity work.

“The volunteers keep themselves busy and away from social harms while contributing to society and preventing the people they help from taking up dangerous habits,” he said.
