Changes in a person’s voice for more than two weeks can be a sign of trouble and indicate throat or laryngeal cancer, said Dr Hossein Fodazi, secretary of the Iranian Society of Radiation Oncology (ISRO), on Saturday.

Stating that air pollution in metropolises and unhealthy lifestyles are the main causes of head and neck tumors, he said, “In 70% of the cases, the cancers are strongly related to environmental factors and diet. Only in 30%, genetics plays a major role in development of the disease,” IRNA reported.

Combined use of alcoholic drinks and tobacco products can increase the risk of developing laryngeal cancer 80 times. People who only smoke cigarettes are 40 times more likely to get the cancer than non-smokers.
