Around 400,000 preschoolers will undergo health screening at hundreds of health centers across the country in summer, prior to their entry in the first grade of school in the new academic year on September 23, said Majid Ghadami, deputy education minister. The health tests have begun and will continue till September. “Screening of each child costs $4, and is free for nomadic students,” Mehr News Agency quoted him as saying. About 10% of the children screened annually are identified with problems like visual or hearing impairment, movement problems, mental retardation, learning difficulties and behavioral problems and referred to pertinent medical facilities or specialists.
