Currently, 10,200 Iranians suffer from different types of hemophilia, of whom 9,500 suffer from severe bleeding disorders and receive regular treatment and medications, said Dr Razieh Hantoushzadeh, an expert at the Health Ministry’s Office for Special Diseases. “This year (ends March 2018), the ministry plans to open ten comprehensive hemophilia treatment centers in ten cities, including Zahedan, Bandar-e Abbas, Mazandaran, Kerman and Kermanshah,” ISNA quoted her as saying. Last year such facilities were opened in Shiraz, Isfahan and Mashhad. The main treatment for hemophilia is called replacement therapy where clotting factors are slowly dripped or injected into a vein.
