Over three tons of illicit drugs were seized in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan Province over the weekend, provincial police Chief Brigadier General Hussein Rahimi said on Wednesday.
“A total of 3.4 tons of drugs were confiscated in several counter-narcotics operations in the province,” he was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. Three smugglers in possession of the contraband were also arrested. Iran has spent more than $700 million to seal the borders and prevent the transit of narcotics destined for European, Arab and Central Asian countries from the world’s top drug producer Afghanistan.
