An Iranian researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has successfully developed a smart system for mobile phones to control hypertension (blood pressure) in elderly people.

In a joint collaboration between UCLA, University of Hawaii, and Charles R. Drew University of medicine and Science (CDU), and supervised by the American National Institutes of Health, lead researcher Hamed Yazdanshenas has programmed and introduced an application which can track a person’s health status and keep it in check, ILNA reported.

The application provides a medicine and diet schedule based on the patient’s medical history and current treatments, with the option to include family members and relatives in order to motivate the patient to attend to their physical wellbeing, says the study report. Yazdanshenas is a medical assistant professor at UCLA as well as CDU. The results of the research project were published in the JMIR, the international scientific Journal for Medical Research, Information and Communication on the Internet.
