Quake Rattles Avaj in Qazvin Province

An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale rattled the city of Avaj in Qazvin Province, northwest of Tehran at 12:45 pm local time on Thursday. The quake occurred 19 km from Avaj in Buin Zahra County. There was no report on possible casualties, but minor damages to rural buildings due to the quake were reported, IRNA reported. Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth’s crust and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
