Last year (ended March 20), around 1,736 deaths due to burn injuries were registered in the country. Among the victims 1,015 were men and 721, women. In Tehran Province alone, 251 people lost their lives to burn injuries, including 197 men and 54 women, though the figure shows a 1% decline compared to the same period in the previous year, the Iran Legal Medicine Organization said on Sunday, IRNA reported. Globally, an estimated 265,000 deaths occur each year from fires alone, the WHO says, with an equal number or more from scalds, electrical burns, and other forms of burns, for which precise data are not available. Over 96% of fatal fire-related burns occur in low- and middle-income countries.
