Solariums have been banned for commercial use in Iran and those who keep and offer tanning services to people in salons will be dealt with according to the law, said Jamal Tavalli, an expert at Medical Devices and Equipments Office at Food and Drug Administration (FDA), ISNA reported. Solariums are large ‘beds’ lined with UV lights, which are used to tan skin at a rapid rate. The forced tanning is associated with DNA damage in cells that produce the dark-colored melanin pigment in the skin.
