Iran’s Sharif University of Technology and China’s Shanghai University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday on the sidelines of the recent 2nd Belt & Road Initiative University Presidents Forum in Shanghai, which brought together dozens of heads of state and government, along with financial organizations, academia and hundreds of business representatives and entrepreneurs.

The MoU was signed between president of Sharif University of Technology, Mahmoud Fotouhi Firouzabad, and Shanghai University president Jin Donghan at a meeting, Mehr News Agency reported.

They two sides also discussed exchanging professors, students, and scientific articles.

The articles in the memorandum signed include holding scientific conferences and workshops, student exchange programs and joint research and activities in scientific publications.

The “One Belt, One Road” Initiative was introduced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 as a land-and-sea version of the fabled Silk Road trading route of the 16th to 18th centuries.

Together, the 64 nations along the Silk Road plus China account for 60% of the world’s population and 30% of its GDP, according to the Hong Kong–based think tank Fung Business Intelligence.
