Nephrology Confab in Shiraz

The 16th International Congress of Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation in started on Tuesday in Shiraz, capital of the southern Fars Province, simultaneous with the 3rd International Congress of Organ Transplantation. A number of medical specialists from Iran and 20 other countries namely, the US, Japan, Spain, Italy, Lebanon, Pakistan, Syria, Canada and Switzerland attended the four-day event that discussed the latest achievements in nephrology, kidney and liver transplant in particular. Shiraz is at the forefront of liver transplants in the country, and has gained international reputation in organ transplantation. The number of liver transplants carried out last year (ended in March) reached 600 cases in Shiraz hospitals, IRNA reported.
