Surgeons have found a new method to treat Neurogenic Bladder Dysfunction, said head of the Iranian Neuro-Urology Society.

“In this method there is no need for urinary catheterization to prevent incontinence,” Dr. Mehri Mehrad said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

“Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, benign and malignant prostate cancers, spine tumors, and congenital diseases can cause Neurogenic Bladder Dysfunction,” she added. “These diseases and prostate problems can result in a rupture of the spinal nerve controlling the bladder.” In the new method called sacral nerve stimulator modulation, an electrode is implanted in the spine and every two hours a sensor triggers the electrode to empty the bladder. According to the Iranian doctor, such an operation is a very expensive one, but it is fully covered by medical insurances, Mehr News Agency reported.
