The average commuter in Tehran wastes 200 hours — more than a week—in traffic snarls every year, said the head of Tehran City Council’s environment committee.

“Given that Tehran city’s population is around nine million, and Tehranis make about 18 million trips per day, they lose about six million hours per year combined,” said Mohammad Haqqani, as reported by ISNA.

He noted that although Tehran traffic decreased by mid-week on Mondays and Tuesdays to about 12 million trips per day, the hours lost in traffic is still high compared to big cities such as Istanbul and Karachi in neighboring countries.
