Three hospitals opened on Thursday in Rasht, Astara and Rezvanshahr cities in Gilan Province, on the occasion of the Iranian New Year (began March 21). The facilities include a 108-bed hospital in Rasht, a132-bed hospital in Astara, and a 32-bed hospital in Rezvanshahr. “More than $51 million (2,060 billion rials) was spent on building the hospitals in Rasht and Astara,” said Health Minister Seyed Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi, IRNA reported. The hospitals are equipped with special sections for ICU, CCU, CT scan, radiology, ultrasound and physiotherapy, as well as laboratory research. Over the past four years 1,700 new beds have been provided to newly constructed or existing hospitals in the country. The number of hospital beds across the country has more than tripled since 2013 when the Rouhani administration took office.  According to figures released by the Health Ministry, there are 1.2 to 1.3 beds per 1000 people in the country.
