The diyye (blood money) compensation rate in the next Iranian year (starts March 21) has seen a 10.5% increase compared to the outgoing year. According to news outlets, the rate of diyye in the event of a person’s death (by accident or murder) has been set at 2.1 billion rials ($55,300) next year, while it was 1.9 billion rials ($50,000) this year. In Islamic law, diyye is the financial compensation paid to the victim or heirs of a victim in the case of murder, or bodily harm.
