Chinese disease control experts have warned the public to stay alert against the H7N9 avian flu, saying that more than 340 cases of human infection have been reported since last October.
Last month alone, 192 human cases of the virus, including 79 deaths, were reported, making it the worst outbreak since the virus was first reported in China in March 2013, according to the Chinese Health and Family Planning Commission, The New Paper reported.
The virus is likely to strike in winter and spring. At present, four vaccines have been approved for clinical trials by China’s top drug regulator, according to the Beijing Food and Drug Administration.
No vaccines for the H7N9 bird flu are on the market in China or overseas at present.
