Royan Institute Unveils 3D Bioprinter

Researchers at Royan Institute have successfully developed a 3D bioprinter or bioplotter which was unveiled on Thursday. “3D printers are common in some parts of the world, and the Royan Institute is proud to develop the printer,” project manager Majid Halvaei told IRNA. “The project was initiated four years ago and a group of scientists at the institute had been working on the design,” he said. The bioprinter creates cell patterns in a confined space using 3D printing which preserves all cell features within the final structure printed. Primary prints would include vessels, bones, and cartilages, and complex body parts such as vessels in a bone tissue and kidney would come in more sophisticated design. The ultimate objective in developing bioprinter is to emulate the giants of the medicine field in reconstruction of body parts which is generally called ‘Reconstruction Medicine,’ Halvaei said.
