To reach seriously-ill patients fast enough in the capital where regular ambulances usually get stuck in the traffic snarls, around 400 motorbike ambulances are planned to be added to the emergency fleet in Tehran city by the end of 2018, said Seyed Asadollah Mousavi, head of Tehran’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS), on Wednesday.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 155th emergency station located in North Karegar Street, District 6.

While 200 motorbike ambulances will be sanctioned this year which ends in March, the remaining will be added over the next fiscal year, he said, IRNA reported.

Presently, 21 emergency air ambulances are also in operation across the country and the Health Ministry is trying to increase the number to 45.
